Which lunar-month system does this page use for Kolkata, and does it change the tithi?
Bengal dates its civil year by a solar calendar, the Bangabda, whose months turn with the Sun's sign and whose new year is Poila Boishakh in April. Pujas, however, are fixed by tithi, and it is the tithi that this page computes. The lunar month label used here follows the purnimanta convention; a Bengali panjika will express the same night through its own solar date, so expect the day names to agree and the month names not to. Sunrise and sunset come from a NOAA solar-position model applied to Kolkata's actual coordinates (22.5726°N, 88.3639°E), not to a district centroid or a state capital. Tithi, nakshatra, yoga and karana are read at that same local sunrise from a sidereal ephemeris using the Lahiri ayanamsa, and their end times are found by bisection to about a minute.
