About Aaj Ka Panchang

Aaj Ka Panchang publishes one thing: a daily panchang computed for the city you are standing in, with the arithmetic stated instead of hidden.

Why another panchang site

Most panchang pages on the Indian web are a single almanac reprinted thirty times with the city name swapped in the heading. The timings underneath are usually Delhi's, or a national average, and the difference is not academic: sunrise on any given morning spans nearly an hour between Guwahati and Ahmedabad, and every window a panchang gives you — Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika, the eight Choghadiya slots, the moment a tithi gives way — is measured from that sunrise. Reprinting Delhi's numbers for Kochi is not a rounding error; it is a different day.

So this site computes each of its 30 cities separately, from that city's own latitude and longitude, every night. Where a value is computed we show it; where a rule is regional we name the region; and where the answer depends on something a calendar cannot know — your chart, your family's tradition, a temple's own announcement — we say so on the page rather than quietly picking a side.

Who writes it

Aaj Ka Panchang is written and maintained by Savan Vyas, who also builds the AskSoma astrology engine the computations here run on. The astronomical layer is a sidereal ephemeris with the Lahiri ayanamsa — the value adopted by the Indian Calendar Reform Committee and used by the Rashtriya Panchang — paired with a NOAA solar-position model for sunrise and sunset. The editorial layer, meaning the city notes and the festival rules, is hand-written and signed.

What we will not do

We will not tell you that a day is lucky. A panchang describes the sky; it does not make promises, and a site that dresses computed astronomy in guarantees is selling something other than astronomy. We do not run interstitials over the timings, we do not gate a tithi behind an email address, and we do not publish a date we have not computed.
